ATHEROMAAS is a well-documented Maastricht Pathology Cohort of artery plaque tissue from symptomatic endarterectomy patients.
It provides an unparalleled platform for deep (spatial) phenotyping, multi-omics integration, and clinical correlation—unlocking novel insights into cardiovascular disease, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).
• Large-scale & Growing:
520+ patients, expanding by ~50 plaques per year
• Beyond Standard Cohorts:
Integrates histopathology, multi-omics, and imaging
• Stratification for co-morbidities and access to healthy artery segments
• Spatial & Functional Precision:
Single-cell resolution for identifying key drivers of disease
• In-house expertise and technology for both inflammation and fibrosis
• Proven Success:
Already yielded high-impact findings & publications
