Our lab was well represented in Utrecht at the 5th (and definitely the warmest ever) Dutch Atherosclerosis Society (DAS) annual meeting. After an inspiring keynote lecture by Prof Isabel Goncalves, our PhD students Elias, Aniek and Moritz showcased some of the lab's ongoing projects.
The Best Oral Presentation Award for Aniek was the cherry on this (melting) cake!

What an unforgettable week at the Bellairs Institute in Barbados! I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Yasser Riazalhosseini (McGill University), Prof. Nikolaus Rajewsky (Max Delbrück Center, Berlin), and Dr. Jo Anne Stratton (The Neuro, McGill) for inviting me to join this Medical Systems Biology meeting.
The event offered a refreshing departure from traditional conferences, featuring fascinating research presentations in an open-air environment. The contrast of exploring the local marine life, captured wonderfully in underwater photographs by David Juncker, while winter weather carried on at home made the experience all the more memorable.
Beyond the beautiful scenery and the great science, the meeting provided a wonderful platform for networking and collaboration. I had the privilege of connecting with a fantastic group of people. I’m leaving with great memories and new ideas, and I certainly wouldn't mind meeting this crowd again—in Barbados or beyond!

We were well represented at the 2nd Young PI meeting! Such a great initiative by Dr. Emiel van der Vorst, uniting young cardiovascular research PIs from the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium at the wonderfully cozy 'Hygge' in Bergeijk. Spoiler alert: we might have to re-evaluate the "Young" part of the title for the next edition... but as long as the quiz remains part of the program, we are absolutely game!

A well-organized lab makes research so much easier! Every now and then, old rules need revision and bad habits need correction. It's great to see PhD students taking the lead with concrete proposals and solutions in this new initiative called "Department of Lab Efficiency"!
Wow indeed!
